Mexican security forces have seized 31 gold and silver-plated, diamond-incrusted guns believed to belong to allies of the powerful Sinaloa drug gang, prosecutors said on Monday.
The weapons, including machine guns and assault rifles with sparkling grips, were also engraved with the words ‘Lobo Valencia,’ a nickname for Oscar Orlando Nava Valencia, the alleged leader of the Valencia gang, the Attorney General’s office said in a statement.
Security forces also found four shot guns, more than 700 cartridges and a small amount of marijuana, jewellery and documents containing Valencia’s name in a storage room in an apartment building in Zapopan, in western Jalisco state.
Nava Valencia has worked with Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman, the fugitive leader of the Sinaloa gang who is Mexico’s most wanted man, the statement said.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last year estimated that Mexico’s drug gangs make around $25 billion (S$34.3 billion) each year from smuggling drugs into the United States, but many experts believe the profits are much higher.

THIS is the amazing image which could show the fabled sunken city of Atlantis.
It shows a perfect rectangle the size of Wales lying on the bed of the Atlantic Ocean nearly 3Ѕ miles down.
A host of criss-crossing lines, looking like a map of a vast metropolis, are enclosed by the boundary.
They seem too vast and organised to be caused naturally.
And last night the possibility of an extraordinary discovery had oceanographers and geophysicists captivated.
The site lies 620 miles off the west coast of Africa near the Canary Islands – a location for Atlantis seemingly suggested by the ancient philosopher Plato.
He believed it was an island civilisation sunk by an earthquake and floods around 9,700BC – nearly 12,000 years ago.
The “grid” showed up on Google Ocean, a Google Earth extension that uses a combination of satellite images and marine surveys.
Last night Dr Charles Orser, curator of historical archaeology at New York State University – and one of the world’s leading authorities on Atlantis – called it “fascinating”.
He said: “The site is one of the most prominent places for the proposed location of Atlantis, as described by Plato. Even if it turns out to be geographical, this definitely deserves a closer look.“
The legend of Atlantis has captured the imagination of scholars for centuries.
And in the 1970s it spawned a hit TV series, Man From Atlantis, in which Patrick Duffy played a webbed hero who could live underwater.
Situated in an area called the Madeira Abyssal Plane, the grid was spotted by aeronautical engineer Bernie Bamford as he browsed through Google Ocean.
Bernie, 38, of Chester, said:
“It looks like an aerial map of Milton Keynes. It must be man-made.”
Google today claimed the criss-crossing lines were sonar data collected as boats mapped the ocean floor.
But the internet giant said “blank spots” within the lines could not be explained.
A spokeswoman said:
“Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor.
“The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data.
“The fact that there are blank spots between each of these lines is a sign of how little we really know about the world’s oceans.”

The annual cheese rolling race is another silly British tradition, brought to you by the same people that gave us Monty Python. Start at the top of a super-steep hill, roll a Double Gloucester cheese wheel down, and race after it.
Competitors hurl themselves down a steep slope after a 7-pound wheel of double Gloucester cheese in the annual event in Cooper’s Hill, England.

A new Youtube video, which shows Bow Wow’s temper rant, in which he cut his finger and missed several weeks of the Exclusive tour, displays a BET spoofed interview gone bad.
Omarion and Bow Wow were constructing an interview for BET’s “The Black Carpet” when Bow got upset, cut off the interview and stormed off claiming interviewer Touré was being too disrespectful with the questions.
“Do you take moves from people like Chris Brown?” Toure had asked O. Toure also pointed out that Lil Wayne’s chain is bigger than Bow Wow’s, and praised O for being dope in the “Naked” video – which was actually Marcus Houston. Toure then began to yawn during one of O’s answers. Bow lost it when the interviewer asked him not to use his phone.
“You pay my bills, bruh? Real talk. …Don’t ask this man is he taking moves from Chris Brown, and don’t ask no other disrespectful-ass, stupid-ass questions,” Bow Wow said to Toure as he got up to leave. “You got a problem with it you can holler at me.”
Bugatti will launch a new $1.9 million version of its Veyron supercar in 2008, according to a published report. The so-called Veyron Targa will receive a glass roof engineered by Webasto — the same German firm responsible for the folding roof on the Volkswagen Eos, according to Edmunds. Unlike the Porsche 911 Targa — which has a glass roof that retracts and is stowed onboard — the Veyron’s roof panel will have to be removed by hand and kept in the garage.
The reason for this shortcoming is the Veyron’s tightly packed design, which leaves no room to store the panel. To compensate, the car will offer an expandable fabric cover that will slide in place of the glass and shield the interior from the elements.
The report seems to suggests that, unlike the Porsche 911 Targa, the Bugatti will have no structural member connecting the windscreen to the pseudo c-pillar/roll-bar. Consequently, reinforcements will be added to the windscreen to maintain rollover safety, and other changes will be made to the underbody to maintain torsional stiffness.
Bugatti will make up for the added weight by giving the car a carbon hood and doors — bringing the weight back to down to the coupe’s level. While acceleration figures should remain unchanged, top speed will be electronically limited to 217 mph for safety reasons. The aerodynamics of the Targa model will not be suitable for the car’s regular top speed of 250 mph, the report said.
